Canon HF200 Camcorder

The other day I was searching the net to see what the best video camcorders are at the moment. So many companies, such as Sony and Panasonic offer great cameras. I checked a few of the cameras from each of those brands. Then I decided to come to Canon’s website and see what their best video camcorders are. A camera that caught my eye is the Canon Vixia HF200. Even though it’s a year old, I must say, that I’m impressed by the Canon HF200 Camcorder. Since I was searching all of this online, I needed to do some more research to see if this really was going to be one of the best HD camcorders for my needs.

The first thing that I did was to go to You Tube. I love using You Tube when it comes to product reviews. You always seem to get good information. And, in the case of the Canon HF200, you can actually see the video that the camera shoots and see some of the different shooting modes and features.

The video quality on this camera is absolutely incredible. It shoots in HD starting at 1920 x 1080 and the bit-rate is 24mbps. The camera is 3.89 megapixels and has a 15x optical zoom. Images are recorded on an SD card that must be class 6 or higher. The camera has no internal memory, which is a good thing. Since you are using the SD card, the camera is better protected from and accidental drop since there are no internal moving parts that work to store the video. The camera produces stunning images across a large color palette. The video that I saw on You Tube showed various shots from bright light outdoors, to medium outdoor light, to indoor light, low light, and dark shooting conditions.

There has been talk in a lot of forums that the HF200 does not shoot well in low light conditions. This couldn’t be further from the truth. As the video reviewer pointed out, many of the people that are shooting in a low light situation, do not have the camera set to the proper mode. In fact, the reviewer showed the difference between the proper setting for low light situations, and the setting that most people were shooting at. The results were staggering. When set to the proper shooting mode, the low light images produced were very clear and crisp with no graininess. Conversely, when set to the wrong mode the results were exactly as the complaints described them. But again, this occurred when the camera was set to the wrong setting.

There are too many features to list in a short article, but these two in particular really jumped out at me. The first is the Cinema Mode. Have you ever wondered why most camcorder images look nothing like a real Hollywood movie? This problem is eliminated when the Camera is set to Cinema Mode. This produces a very slick and produced looking video image, much like what you would find from a Hollywood movie. This is a great thing for film makers that are on a budget, but do not want to sacrifice quality.

The next feature I liked is the Video Snapshot Mode. This feature will allow you to produce 4 second clips, which you can then make into a highlight reel. On top of that the camera comes with a music CD that you can use to edit background music into your clips. This is certainly a fun feature that kids can use to make videos to share with their friends on Facebook and Myspace.

These are just a few things that make the Canon HF200 camcorder one of the best HD camcorders in my eyes. Since getting this camera, I couldn’t be happier with it. If you are considering this camera as well, hopefully this article has helped in your decision making process.
