Canon HF200 Camcorder

These days there are an influx of high quality HD camcorders. With so many different models to choose from, it is  tough to know for sure if you got the best HD camcorder for your needs. Canon has a number of good HD cameras on the market right now. The HF200 is certainly more expensive then most of these, but with the increase in price also comes an increase in the camera’s feature set that can certainly be comparable to Canon’s higher end models such as the HFS10/100. There is also the added bonus of the camera being much smaller then those models. Let’s look at a few things that make the Canon HF200 one of the best camcorders to buy out there.

The first thing that came very clearly to my attention was the amazing picture quality that this camera produces. The video is very crisp with vibrant colors that give a very true to life picture. The camera shoots well even in low light and night situations. Landscapes are especially nice to shoot with this camera because it has a 15x zoom. The zoom combined with the HD picture starting at 1080p can make for some fantastic outdoor shots.

All of the buttons and user features are easily accesable, and easy to control.Using the Video Snapshot mode you can even create a highlight reel of four second clips and edit in background music from a cd that comes in the box. The average battery life for the cameara is about 1.5 hours. This is generally more than enough time to record, unless you are making a movie. If that is the case, there are longer lasting batteries available from Canon that can double, or in some cases quadrouple that time.

The real sticking point for me with this camera is the video quality. The feature set is very attractive, and all controls are easy to use. But even if they weren’t, I just don’t see it getting any better then the HF200. Cameras from competitors such as Sony and Panasonic have come close, but they are still lacking something in the video quality compared to the HF200. And since it uses an SD card, you can easily transfer video from the camera to your computer in a snap.

Costing around $1249, it is a more expensive camera, but the video quality and features certainly make it worth it. Cameras costing just $200 dollars less are no where near what the HF200 has in terms of quality and capability. I really think Canon has made a great product, which is why I would say that the HF200 is absolutely one of the best HD camcorders available.
